Red sand is used to form inverted shapes. The mortar is mixed and poured into a wheelbarrow which becomes the palette. Coloured oxides are added to the mortar and then scooped out by hand and applied to the sand. It is a tactile process and sometimes produces a surprising result. Using similar techniques, I also make pavers and I am experimenting with benches and small tables.
